Jobs to go as baby stroller maker closes doors

11:43 am on 18 August 2009

Baby stroller maker Mountain Buggy is set to move its assembly line from Wellington to China, with a loss of up to 45 jobs.

Campbell Gower, chief executive of Phil and Teds, the company that runs Mountain Buggy, says production costs have forced the November move.

Mr Gower says most of the job losses will be from the Lower Hutt factory but plans were under way to relocate workers.

He says redundancy will not be offered to workers because their services are contracted through the company Tritec.

He says it was hoped Tritec could take some of the workers.
