Judith Collins dismisses Peters' deal claim

09:26 am on 29 August 2014

National MP Judith Collins has firmly denied any approach was made over a post-election deal with Winston Peters, saying the New Zealand First leader is the last person she would do a deal with.

Mr Peters said an approach was made on behalf of an MP close to Ms Collins to see whether the New Zealand First leader could do a post-election deal with her, if he couldn't do a deal with National Party leader John Key.

Speaking on Radio New Zealand's Morning Report programme, Judith Collins has challenged Mr Peters to front up with evidence backing his story.

Mr Peters said a person, whose identity he will not reveal, made the approach earlier this year, just before the Oravida scandal blew up.

"There was no doubt in the clarity of the person's purpose and the link that was the case, and I'm astonished she is denying it, he told Morning Report.
