Drivers travelling into Wellington will be able to pay by licence plate, rather than carpark number next week.
Four-hundred new parking meters have been installed and the council is urging drivers to get familiar with changes to parking as people return following the Christmas break,
The new meters will be in place in the city centre including in Kelburn and near the Botanic Gardens on Wednesday, 3 Jan.
There will be 260 card-only meters while the rest will also take cash including payment via paywave and PayMyPark app.
Coin and card meters are black and yellow and sit on the ground, while the card-only meters are mountedon a pole.
The council announced that parking prices will stay the same, from $3 - $5 per hour on weekdays depending on the location, and $3 per hour on weekends.
The Wellington City Council says on-screen instructions will be available in English and te reo Māori, and the maximum height of the screens is designed to be accessible for wheelchair users.
The old carpark numbers on the kerbs will be removed and can be ignored if using the new machines.
