Last week's flooding in the Wellington region has left a primary school without four of its classrooms for at least two months.

Tawa School was badly affected by the floods when a nearby river burst its banks and flooded the four rooms.

Deputy Principal Jan Treeby said pupils would be moved into the library and music room while the damage was fixed.

She said they were unlikely to be able to move back until the next term, in July.

"Unfortunately with the heavy rain the drains blocked and the river that runs at the back of the school flooded and the water has come through the classrooms."
