More come forward over indecent assault

21:06 pm on 4 September 2014

Police say more people have come forward since a Hawke's Bay music and drama teacher pleaded guilty to indecently assaulting children.

Charles Harter admitted charges of indecently assaulting girls aged between nine and 12 while teaching at Havelock North Primary School between 2012 and July this year.

Police will not say how many people have come forward, or where they are from, as their investigation is continuing.

Harter, 63, also worked at Rathkeale and Makoura Colleges in Masterton, Hutt Valley High School, and the Correspondence School in Wellington.

Hutt Valley principal Ross Sinclair said police have been in contact, but no complaints from any current or former students have been received.

Harter is in custody until sentencing at the Hastings District Court in October.
