The descendants of the Gallipoli Peninsula's Lone Pine tree have been sent to RSAs and other groups for planting at ANZAC Day Centenary events.

The original Lone Pine tree is significant to New Zealand because it was in an area where ANZACS lost their lives during the Gallipoli campaign.
The seeds were collected in 2012 from the Turkish red pine growing at Paeroa Golf Course, a descendant of the original Lone Pine.
The 52-year old seedlings were propagated by the Crown research institute, Scion.
Its forest genetics science team said it was nice to commemorate an anniversary with something that will live on, and the team was pleased to be involved in the project.
