Ok Tedi provides big cheque for PNG quake victims

Ok Tedi Mining Ltd is to donate of $US15 million to help restore services and infrastructure to the communities affected by the recent devastating earthquakes in Papua New Guinea.

The Post Courier reports the company chairman Sir Moi Avei saying that given the magnitude of the disaster, it is the company's responsibility to help the people of PNG.

He said the money was intended to provide assistance to the impacted areas in Western Province - the company's home province.

The OK Tedi chief executive, Peter Graham, said while no staff were hurt the company had been seriously affected by the quake.

He said the families of some employees have also suffered.
