A senior member of Fiji's ruling party says the government is to serve all Fijians, despite controversial comments by the Prime Minister.
A senior member of the ruling Fiji First Party says the government is there to serve all Fijians.
This comes amid reports that Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama has said he would give priority to his supporters in carrying out developments in the country's north.
A report initally carried in the Fiji Sun newspaper reported the Prime Minsiter saying it was only fair the government looks after its supporters first as without them his Fiji First Party would not be in government.
But the government's Deputy Whip, Sanjit Patel, who is part of a group of Fiji MPs visiting the New Zealand parliament this week says there has surely been a misunderstanding.
"We as a government are here to serve everyone, there may be some misunderstanding but the fact is that the government of Fiji is there to serve each and every person in Fiji."
