Forty eight people have been killed by a car bomb at a funeral in Baghdad. Iraqi officials say another 78 were wounded.

The car exploded at about 2pm local time on Thursday. It was parked near the funeral in the Shula area.

The BBC reports mourners later attacked police accusing them of failing to provide protection. Finally, the military had to restore order

A series of bombings killed dozens of Shia pilgrims during their annual pilgrimage to the holy city of Karbala last week.
