More than 1000 containers have been recovered from the grounded ship Rena.
The container ship was carrying 1368 containers when it ran onto the Astrolabe Reef near Tauranga on 5 October 2011.
Environmental specialist clean-up company Braemar Howells says 1003 containers have been retrieved, leaving a further 365 still to be recovered, which are either around the wreck or in the sunken stern section.
About 1300 tonnes of heavy fuel oil was successfully removed from the ship by salvors after it ran aground, but not before about 350 tonnes leaked and spilled onto Bay of Plenty beaches.
