Vanuatu's new PM signals move against sale of citizenship

05:56 am on 23 May 2014

Vanuatu's new Prime Minister has warned against the sale of Vanuatu citizenship, saying it is not right that the former Government earned its revenue on the back of the ni-Vanuatu people.

Joe Natuman says his new Government will review all government revenue-earners from abroad.

This comes after Moana Carcasses was voted out after a no confidence motion.

Mr Natuman says one of the reasons Mr Carcasses had to go was his administration's Capital Investment Immigration Plan, which linked the sale of citizenship and real estate.

Mr Natuman, who is the deputy president of the Vanua'aku Pati, says it is important for everyone to remember the core values that the country's founding fathers stood for, such as respect, honesty, transparency and accountability.
