Auckland passenger plane inspected for smoke

05:55 am on 28 July 2011

The fire service is inspecting a Jetstar passenger plane at Auckland airport after reports of the smell of smoke in the cockpit as it landed.

Northern communications shift manager, Jaron Phillips, says the passengers safely disembarked from the domestic Airbus A320.

He did not say which airline it was.

Firefighters are using a thermal imaging device. They have also smelled smoke.

Jaron Phillips says extreme care was taken because the plane can carry tonnes of fuel.
