Police have arrested a man they shot in the leg during a domestic violence callout in Manurewa on Saturday night.
The 43-year-old was taken into police custody on his release from hospital on Monday afternoon.
He faces six charges, including assault with a weapon, possession of an offensive weapon and doing a dangerous act with reckless disregard.
Three of the charges relate specifically to assaulting the police with a weapon.
A full inquiry is underway into the shooting.
Police say officers at first used a taser and pepper spray when the man advanced on them, but they were to no effect.
