A Wellington nightclub owner is being accused of racism after he allegedly posted a derogatory status about Indians on his private Facebook account, according to a student magazine.
Massive Magazine says that the owner of the 'Famous' club on Courtenay Place, Neill Andrews, posted the status in late December saying that his club "doesn't let in creepy Indian rapists" who don't buy alcohol, and putting bodies in "hybrid taxis."
The magazine quotes an anonymous "man of Indian heritage" who says that Andrews "has a reputation for being outspoken and ignorant."
Andrews told the magazine that his club is "multicultural and [his status] wasn't necessarily racially motivated," saying that it was targetted "at a specific type of person from that particular ethnic group" who were causing a nuisance to his business.
