Son-in-law of Indian cricket boss suspended

06:26 am on 27 May 2013

The son-in-law of India's cricket board chief has been suspended from "any involvement" in the sport pending an inquiry into his role in a spot-fixing scandal.

Gurunath Meiyappan, part of the management team of the Indian Premier League franchise Chennai Super Kings, was arrested by police in Mumbai on Friday for allegedly betting on matches in connivance with bookies and a Bollywood actor.

Meiyappan has been remanded in police custody in Mumbai for four days.

His arrest has led to a clamour for the sacking of Narayanaswami Srinivasan, but the head of the Indian Board insists he's going nowhere.
