A man has been arrested in the Bay of Plenty town of Kawerau after police fired shots at him during a chase.
Police were carrying out a search warrant at a property in the town at about 11.25am when a man fled in a vehicle.
Road spikes were used twice before the vehicle came to a stop in Te Teko.
Police said the man then pointed a firearm at officers and they fired at him.
He then fled in another vehicle stolen from the scene and headed back towards Kawerau, where police forced the vehicle to stop.
The man then fled on foot. He was tracked to a house and surrendered to police at about 2pm.
Nobody was injured in the incident.
The Kawereu District Council put its offices, pool, I-site and library into lockdown during the incident.
Police have launched an investigation. A Critical Incident Investigation has also begun and the IPCA will be notified.
SH 30 Te Teko east of the Rangitaiki River was closed while a scene examination was conducted, but has now re-opened.
