With so much uncertainty about the future of the Coromandel's roading network, the peninsula's airport is seeing more popularity than ever. Barrier Air operate from the Auckland Domestic Airport, and offers services to Whitianga, along with Kaitaia and Great Barrier Island. The Whitianga flights, which run twice daily and land on a grass airstrip, are consistently selling out. Nathan Rarere spoke to the Chief Executive of Barrier Air Grant Bacon, and began by asking him how long it takes to fly from Auckland to Whitianga.
