The Australian Green Party is calling for an expert medical team to be sent to Manus Island detention centre in Papua New Guinea, after the evacuation of a refugee in a critical condition.
The Greens' immigration spokesperson, Senator Sarah Hanson-Young, says an independent team must be allowed to investigate conditions at the centre.
The senator says the evacuation is just the latest incident in a long line of unnecessary tragedies that have come out of the Manus Island detention camp.
She says there is a toxic culture of abuse and neglect in Australia's offshore detention centres and they should all be shut down.
