The sound of guns thundered across Wellington harbour on Thursday for the Queen's birthday.
The New Zealand Army fired a 21-gun salute at midday from four 25 pounder guns on Mount Victoria.
Although the official Queen's birthday weekend is in June the monarch's actual birthday is Thursday 21 April.
The 21-gun salute will be heard again for the official Queen's birthday celebration on Monday 6 June.
