An Auckland teenager has been sexually assaulted on a school trip to India, a local paper reports.
The Times of India said the 16-year-old girl was assaulted by a dress salesman at a hotel in the city of Varanasi.
She was trying on the dress at a garment shop late on Tuesday when it occurred, the report said.
Police arrested a man.
The victim was part of a group of students visiting Varanasi for cultural studies, the newspaper said.
She told fellow students about the assault and their tour guide complained to hotel management and the police, according to the report.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said it was following up the report, but it said the New Zealand High Commission in New Delhi has not been contacted for consular advice or assistance.
