Ten sections of state highways are to be targeted by police to try to reduce serious crashes - with the road toll up from this time last year.

The Transport Agency says the list is not of the highest-risk or most dangerous parts, but rather areas where targeted enforcement will help manage speed and prevent crashes.
Nine of the roads are in the North Island.
Six are part of State Highway 1 and five run through Auckland.
Only one road in the South Island is included - the road from Templeton to Rolleston in Canterbury.
The 2018 road toll stands at 260, last year's road toll until August was 253.
The list of roads are as follows:
- SH1 from Hamilton to Tamahere (Waikato)
- SH22 from Drury to Pukekohe (Auckland)
- SH1 from Warkworth to Puhoi (Auckland)
- SH1 on the Northern Motorway from Auckland to Albany (Auckland)
- SH1 Newmarket to Takanini (Auckland)
- SH1 Templeton to Rolleston (Canterbury)
- SH16 Parnell to Hobsonville (Auckland)
- SH58 Pauatahanui to SH2 Upper Hutt (Wellington)
- SH1 Whangārei to Marsden ( Northland)
- SH3 New Plymouth to Inglewood (Taranaki)
