Course A for America's Cup D Day

12:16 pm on 17 March 2021

In a bid to find stronger winds, America's Cup race director Iain Murray has opted for the course A for today's racing which could see Team New Zeland secure the Auld Mug.

Course A is the northern most course around East Coast Bays with winds of 7 to 11 knots forecast.

Team New Zealand have a 6-3 lead over Luna Rossa, having won the last four races and needing just one more win to defend the trophy.

Both teams though will be anxious as with wind still in the lighter range there's no guarantee that one or both of today's races will get underway.

"Today is a day when the sea breezes build on either side of the country," said Murray.

"We have set the course in area A but brought it as far south as we can in order to try and make the best of the compression area for the wind in the Rangitoto Channel."
