A young Ngati Hine lawyer has been selected as Labour's candidate for the Northland seat, in this year's general election.
Willow-Jean Prime, 31, has played a prominent role in the presentation of hapu claims to the Waitangi Tribunal, and was elected a Far North councillor last October.
She trained and worked as a solicitor in Wellington, before returning to the north to establish her own business, and work for Ngati Hine.
Ms Prime said she loved being a district councillor but believed she could achieve more for the north as an MP.
