One person has died and another is seriously injured after a car crashed into a tree in Hanmer Springs.

Police said the crash happened about 12.40am on Jollies Pass Road overnight.
The driver died at the scene and the passenger was taken to hospital by helicopter.
The serious crash unit is investigating.
