The president of French Polynesia's Council of Physicians has been detained and charged with sexual assault.

Tahiti-infos reported that Gilles Soubiran has been accused of assaulting a minor under the age of 15.
He was taken into custody reportedly after being under investigation for several months.
Media reports said while awaiting a decision on whether to release him, Dr Soubiran is being held in prison.
It is not known if a complaint is at the centre of the investigation.
