Australian police to assess Norfolk murder material

21:32 pm on 2 June 2011

The Australian Federal Police say they will assess material given to them by a New Zealand documentary maker, who claims to have new evidence about the Norfolk Island murder of Janelle Patton in 2002.

The investigator, Bryan Bruce, said on a programme screened by TVNZ that the man convicted of the murder, Nelson chef Glenn McNeill, is alleging that two other people killed Ms Patton and forced him to dispose of the body.

McNeill is in the fifth year of a 24-year jail sentence in Australia.

In a statement, the Australian Federal Police said they met with the documentary maker on Wednesday and he has given them material.
