The Fiji Labour Party says it was expected that government members would sabotage the Public Accounts Committee, which was this week due to have its first sitting.

The meeting was called off after the ruling FijiFirst Party objected to it being chaired by Biman Prasad of the opposition National Federation Party.

He is alleged to have commented in an unacceptable fashion on the release to the public of audit reports about the military-led regime's seven years in government.

The Labour Party says the boycott was expected given the reports' damning revelations of abuse, mismanagement, fraud, embezzlement and conversion.

It says the raids on the treasury are now out in the open and must somehow be suppressed to save the perpetrators' skins.

The Labour Party says the rising tide of public outrage at the dishonesty and deceit of those who were shouting slogans of accountability and transparency will not be quelled by boycotting or cancelling Committee meetings.
