Nine youths have been arrested by Gisborne Police after multiple reported vehicle break-ins in the past few days.
Police said they were notified of a number of vehicles being broken into in Mangapapa Sunday night and Fox Street early Monday morning.
Police dog teams were used to successfully track and locate the youth offenders.
Five were charged with the unlawful taking of three vehicles and breaking into three vehicles.
The remaining four offenders, aged under 13, have been referred to youth services.
Police will continue to actively patrol the Tairāwhiti area and said they urge people to take measures to keep their vehicles from being stolen, such as locking them and removing valuables.
