Fire in Waipoua Forest contained

Firefighters have contained a blaze in a Northland forest which is home to New Zealand's oldest tree.

Emergency services were called to a fire, believed to be suspicious, in Waipoua Forest at 12.35am on Monday.

The Fire Service said says the blaze was 10km from the giant kauri Tane Mahuta and fire burned through three hectares of flax and bush.
