Strong earthquake hits near Vanuatu

A 6.1 magnitude earthquake has struck 13 kilometres from the Vanuatu capital Port Vila.

The United States Geological Survey says the quake struck just before midnight local time.

The quake was measured at 10 km deep.

There are no reports of any damage and based on the information the US Geological Survey says there is a low likelihood of casualties and damage.
