All Whites not giving up hope as Smith speaks

18:30 pm on 17 November 2013

The Mexican footballers are settling into Wellington and have trained for the first time in the capital, while the New Zealand captain's broken their media silence at the team hotel.

On Saturday no one from the All Whites spoke to media on arrival from Mexico after their 5-1 drubbing in the first leg of their World Cup playoff.

Skipper Tommy Smith says that was team orders so they could get to their hotel as quickly as possible.

And Smith's not ruling out turning around their four-goal deficit in the second leg on Wednesday at a sold-out Westpac Stadium.

The Ipswich Town defender says obviously the scoreline's not what they wanted but football's a strange game and they'll be relying on every person at the game to help them get across the line.
