The Perth Wildcats have done the New Zealand Breakers a favour in the race for top spot in the Australian Basketball League, beating the Cairns Taipans 65-54 to knock the Queenslanders out of first place.

The Breakers now sit on top of the ladder by half a game and can stretch their advantage with a win over the Townsville Crocodiles on Saturday night.
The Adelaide 36ers defeated the Sydney Kings 97-78 in Friday night's other game.
