Hawke's Bay museum re-opens today

10:53 am on 21 September 2013

After a three year makeover, Hawke's Bay's new museum re-opens to the public in Napier on Saturday.

The $18 million refurbishment of the Museum Theatre Gallery (MTG Hawke's Bay) was partly due to the need for earthquake strengthening.

Features include glass cases imported from Belgium, interactive technology to enhance visitors' experiences and CT scans performed on sculptures.

MTG director Douglas Lloyd Jenkins said the people of Hawke's Bay will be delighted with the new building, which has the perfect balance between new and old.

A street carnival is planned at the Napier waterfront for the event.
