Watch: Guide to using and storing Covid-19 face masks

07:26 am on 8 September 2020

It may seem straightforward to put on a mask - but many of us are overlooking the basics, such as not washing hands before and after use, and the correct storage method.

We made a simple video on how to wear your mask safely that is based on information supplied by the World Health Organisation.

The video is a step-by-step guide that covers all the key things to remember including: the importance of hand washing hygiene, not using a mask that is damaged or dirty, and a reminder that a mask is not intended to be shared with anyone else.

In New Zealand it is now mandatory for anyone over 12 to wear a mask while using public transport.

Health experts are also encouraging people to wear masks at indoor settings, including bars, restaurants and gyms.
