Ko on the charge in Florida

13:34 pm on 28 January 2022

Lydia Ko has fired a nine under par opening round to sit at the top of the leaderboard after the opening round of the latest LPGA golf event in Florida.

Ko's round of 63 - included nine birdies.

Ko finished tied for tenth at the season-opening event at Lake Nona Golf and Country Club in Orlando earlier this week.

"I didn't have a great time on the putting green (at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions), so to kind of see putts going in was good imagery, and I tried to feed off that for the rest of the round," said Ko post round.

"I hit a string of birdies on my front nine [after starting on No. 10]. Overall, I didn't get into much trouble, was putting myself in play. When I had opportunity for birdie, for the most part I was able to hole it, which is nice."
