Human rights training for police in Papua New Guinea continued last week, with twenty-four police officers, including six women taking part in a four day workshop in Goroka.
Delivered in partnership with the United Nations with funding from the Australian government, the training package teaches a human rights approach to arrest and detention, use of force, and policing protests.
The participants from nine districts in the Eastern Highlands province were further encouraged to respect human rights in their personal as well as professional lives, and reminded that human rights starts at home.
The group was the second batch to complete the training which is scheduled to be rolled-out across the country this year.
