It's the last day for submissions on a Government proposal which would make it illegal to sell the remains of extinct species like moa bones, which have fetched thousands of dollars on sites like Trade Me. Since 2010 there have been more than 350 cases of moa bones and eggshells being put up for sale, many of these having been removed from protected sites. The Government is proposing new regulations under the Wildlife Act to put an end to the practice, except for scientific purposes or as part of Maori cultural practices.
