An MP with Samoa's ruling HRPP party and a former senior police officer, Patu Ativalu, has called on the Minister of Police to throw out officers who do not live up to the standards of upholding the law.

The former opposition MP was speaking in parliament after being re-elected in a a by-election held in April.

Patu says the increasing number of police officers accused of breaking the law does not look good for the image of the local police service and is a real concern.

The comments by the MP come after accusations of rape were made against an assistant commissioner .
