UK newspaper The Farmers Guardian has reported that British farmers say New Zealand lamb is over-fat, over-priced and damaging the Duchy brand.

Farmer Gethin Havard said it had taken years to persuade British farmers to produce leaner animals and he would contact Prince Charles to air his frustrations.

A spokesperson from Waitrose said during the British season, it only sold UK- farmed lamb, predominantly from Wales and the West Country.

However, the company said when it could not source enough organic lamb locally, it got a proportion of what it needed from overseas.
