The mayor of Kapiti has called in police and tightened security after death threats to council staff over a dangerous dog that is to be put down.

The Staffordshire terrier/Great Dane cross called Beau was seized two years ago and put in the pound after complaints about his aggressive behaviour, including three attacks on other dogs - one a Doberman.
The District and High Courts have rejected the owner's appeals to save the animal, which will be put down in the next few days.
Kapiti mayor Ross Church said today he is sickened by threats against council staff, which have been reported to police.
A council spokesperson said extra security patrols are in place at the pound, as well as the homes of some council staff following the threats which have been posted online.
The spokesperson said at least one dog control staffer was not at work today.
