A Brazilian man is being held in French Polynesia charged with trafficking methamphetamine.

Reports say he was detained last week but after being questioned by an investigative judge he applied for a release.

That hearing has been deferred to later in the week.

The report says his detention is related to an investigation launched last year when two American women were suspected of smuggling the banned drug.
