Hartley didn't have the run he would have hoped for narrowly missing out on qualifying in the second round for the Melbourne Grand Prix.

The 28-year-old was 0.29sec slower than 15th ranked Force India driver Esteban Ocon, while team mate Pierre Gasley's mistake has cost him to start at 20th adding to a fustrated team Torro Rosso.

Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton took pole position after lapping the Albert Park circuit in a searing one minute and 21.164 seconds to cross the line 0.664 seconds clear of Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen.

The Finn's Ferrari team mate Sebastian Vettel was third fastest
