Winston Peters has denied hiring a team of British political operatives to work on the New Zealand First election campaign.

That's despite a report out of London that New Zealand First has engaged Arron Banks and Andy Wigmore of the pro-Brexit Leave.EU campaign.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Wigmore promised to bring "mischief, mayhem and guerrilla warfare" to the campaign trail.

In response Winston Peters quoted President Ronald Reagan saying 'there they go again.' before going on to say "The clickbait journos can't help themselves".

"Not only have I not hired such a crew but it is impossible to see how they would even gain entry into the country."

The Telegraph's chief political correspondent Christopher Hope is sticking with the story - which he has re-confirmed with Arron Banks and Andy Wigmore.

He speaks to Kim Hill.
