Land decision delays cause more stress

Some Christchurch residents say ongoing delays in decisions on their land is adding to the stress of living with damaged homes.

More than 6000 properties have been deemed uninhabitable.

Thousands of other homeowners still have no final decision on whether they can stay or go.

The badly-damaged Parklands home of Pam Burgess is in the green zone, indicating that, generally, homes can remain.

However in October a new category of zoning was announced which said her land is prone to liquefaction, and if the house is to be rebuilt the site needs to be assessed to see whether it needs special foundations.

Her insurance company now says it might take two years for that assessment to be carried out.
