The Port of Lyttelton is to provide free boat tours to allow residents to see its developments.
Chief executive Peter Davie said the 90-minute tour would give people the chance, in the safest and most effective way, to view what is in progress and understand the port's long term plan.
The draft Lyttelton Port Recovery Plan is before the Minister for Canterbury Earthquake Recovery, Gerry Brownlee, waiting to be signed off by the end of next month.
It proposed giving the public better access to the port's inner harbour and allowing some commercial development like cafes and bars.
The plan also made proposals on environmental and noise issues.
