The Education Commissioner in the Northern Mariana Islands says schools may have their power cut off due to lack of funding under the coming fiscal year's budget.
According to the Marianas Variety Rita Sablan has told senators that schools could be disconnected from the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation if they don't set aside at least 34 milion US dollars for the Public School System.
Ms Sablan says a House budget bill passed two weeks ago gave the Public School System just 28.9 million.
But she says 34 million is needed for it to survive.
