The Papua New Guinea Prime Minister has used Monday's Independence Day address to promote what he calls the biggest meeting in PNG's history, the 2018 APEC Summit.
During a flag raising ceremony Peter O'Neill said in two months will the eyes of the world will be on PNG when they host the event.
The Post Courier reported he referred to the summit as "the most significant international event that has ever been hosted in Papua New Guinea".
Mr O'Neill said the Leaders from APEC's 21 member countries, and around 15,000 delegates are set to visit PNG in November.
He claimed the country would be able to showcase its culture and heritage and natural beauty and there will be clear investment and trade opportunities.
Monday was the 43rd anniversary of PNG Independence.
