Nearly 1500 customers are without internet in the Bay of Plenty after a cut was found in a Chorus cable on Tuesday morning.
Chorus said 1015 copper service customers and 389 fibre customers mainly in Waihi, Omokoroa, Katikati, and Whakamarama were impacted.
A Chorus spokesperson said they idetified the cut cable at about 11am.
"Chorus technicians have been on-site since this morning, excavated the cable, and are putting in a temporary overlay to restore services. Latest updates indicate some customers are already coming back online as our technicians continue to work in the area."
"This outage is currently under action as a Priority 1 event, meaning it has been escalated for fastest restoration by our field teams. Our priority is to get everyone back online, while we plan and process a permanent solution."
"Chorus sincerely apologises to affected customers for the inconvenience caused by the outage."
They said they've provided the affected communities with updates.
Western Bay of Plenty district council has had to close the Waihi Beach library and service centre but its main centre is still open.
