The southbound lane of the Te Anau Milford Highway has reopened with stop-go traffic management in place following a serious crash earlier today.

One person was critically injured and another is in a serious condition.

The crash - in which a van rolled - was reported on State Highway 94 near Deer Flat shortly before midday on Wednesday.

St John said two people had been transported to Dunedin Hospital by helicopter after a manager and two helicopters were sent to the crash.

Several other people had been taken to a nearby medical centre with minor to moderate injuries.
