F1 Team bosses back proposal to punish bad drivers

Formula One team bosses have backed a proposal by International Automobile Federation president Jean Todt to penalise Grand Prix drivers for everyday traffic offences.

Todt feels Formula One drivers should play a greater role in promoting road safety and wants drivers who break rules on public roads to be punished.

Todt's comments came after Australian police charged Lewis Hamiltion for doing a "burn-out" on a public road before this year's Melbourne Grand Prix.

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner agrees with Toft, as does Renault's principal, although Eric Boullier isn't sure about the appropriate punishment.

And the principal of Hamilton's McLaren team, Martin Whitmarsh, also gave tacit support.
